San Diego Police Shoots Man Suspected Of Stealing Patrol Car

A man driving a stolen patrol car from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was shot and wounded by police in the San Diego area after a pursuit on the freeway.

San Diego police Lieutenant Kevin Rooney says Regino Aguilar was
taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. after Aguilar led police and
California Highway Patrol officers on a brief chase on Interstate
5.

The patrol car was reported stolen about two hours earlier from a sheriff's parking lot in Compton.

The chased ended when Aguilar pulled over and stepped out of the car.

Police say he then got back in the car and was, quote, "literally trying to pull the shotgun out of its mount."

The action prompted officers to fire at him.
