The man who helped pilot the first nonstop, unrefueled flight around the world made an emergency landing today in Victorville.
Dick Rutan (roo-tan) says he was flying solo from Mojave to Palm Springs when his small plane had engine trouble.
He landed safely on a small road several miles from the Victorville Airport.
Rutan says the cylinder in the engine blew suddenly.
He said he was lucky he was flying below a thousand feet and managed to land in a remote area.
Rutan says he was on his way to a friend's memorial service, but missed the event.
