Woman Abandons Newborn Baby At Lodi Gas Station

Police are looking for a woman they say abandoned a six-pound newborn baby boy at a Lodi gas station.

Authorities say the woman approached a 22-year-old woman who was
pumping gas at an Arco AM/PM station near Highway 99 just after
noon Monday.

She handed her a baby wrapped in a green towel and reportedly said, "I can't handle this right now."

Police say she then fled in a gold Hyundai sedan.

The California State University, Fresno student drove the infant to Lodi Memorial Hospital, where staff named him Baby Mercury.

The baby appears to be healthy and is currently in the care of Child Protective Services.
