SoCal Warship Returns With Rescued 14-Year-Old

A teenager who underwent surgery at sea after her appendix ruptured on a Mexican cruise returns to the Mainland aboard the U.S. warship that came to her rescue.

The USS Ronald Reagan is scheduled to arrive in San Diego around 9 a.m.

The ship was on training maneuvers Sunday when it got a distress call and steamed 550 miles to pick up Laura Montero of Albion, Ill., from the cruise ship Dawn Princess off the coast of Mexico.

The girl underwent emergency surgery aboard the aircraft carrier and is expected to make a full recovery.
