Report: Some Writers Negotiating With Venture Capitalists

A newspaper reports that some striking film and TV writers have been negotiating with venture capitalists to create companies that would bypass Hollywood studios and reach consumers by placing video entertainment on the Internet.

The Los Angeles Times reports that dozens of members of the Writers Guild of America are thinking about setting up Web-based businesses to create an alternative economic model.

The strike began November 5th when writers walked off their jobs over compensation for content streamed or downloaded over the Internet.

Most writers who have been talking with venture capitalists told the newspaper it was too early to discuss details.

Meanwhile, guild officials have said they will try to reach working agreements with individual production companies.
