A Marine drill instructor has been found NOT guilty of abusing recruits at a San Diego base.
But a military jury did find Sergeant Brian Wendel guilty yesterday of failing to report abuse by others.
He could face up to a year in the brig and a dishonorable discharge.
The Columbus, Ohio man is one of three drill instructors who faced trial on charges that they assaulted and mistreated troops at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Some recruits allegedly were struck with objects and one was stuffed into a trash can.
Former Sergeant Jerrod Glass was convicted last month. He was
discharged and given six months in the brig.
Sergeant Robert Hankins is awaiting trial.
