Prosecutors have dropped felony charges against a minister and his son stemming from a February brawl over a lost golf ball.
Fifty-one-year-old Michael Babin is the leader of Genesis Ministries International in Oceanside. He and his 24-year-old son were accused of beating a man unconscious after he fished their ball out of a pond at a municipal golf course.
They faced up to four years in prison if convicted of the charges.
Babin maintained his innocence from the start, claiming he was verbally abused in the argument.
Babin's golfing companion pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor assault charge and was sentenced to three years' probation, 15 days of public work service and 100 hours of volunteer work.
