The state Fair Political Practices Commission is launching an investigation of Fortuna Mayor Campbell and his financial relationship with Pacific Lumber Co.
The Humboldt Watershed Council requested the probe two months ago and announced Friday the commission had agreed to investigate.
The group claims Campbell failed to properly disclose income he received from the timber company and took part in discussions that
could affect a development on Palco's former mill site in Fortuna.
The commission has not disclosed which allegations it will investigate.
Campbell denies the council's claims and has said he would have
recused himself if he believed there had been a conflict of interest.
