Hiker Missing 2 Days Found in Mount San Jacinto State Park

A hiker who vanished in Mount San Jacinto State Park on Thursday afternoon has been found in good condition.

A Riverside County sheriff's helicopter rescued Richard Harper late Saturday morning, about 20 minutes after spotting a signal fire he had built.

Sheriff's officials say Harper was dehydrated and had suffered minor abrasions and insect bites. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Harper vanished after taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to San Jacinto Peak shortly after noon Thursday.

He is an experienced hiker, but authorities were concerned because he was dressed in a T-shirt and shorts.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Herlinda Valenzuela says temperatures in the area have been dropping below
50 degrees.
