Three people are reported to have died in a plane crash in a rural area near Delano, about 30 miles northwest of Bakersfield.
All passengers in the private, single-engine plane died when the aircraft crashed in an orange grove, Kern County Sheriffs deputies said.
The crash was reported at noon, and Kern County fire officials have responded to the scene.
No information was immediately available about the victims or where the plane had taken off from or was heading, although fire authorities said Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield had a copy of the flight plan.
Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were on their way to the site.
"Meadows reported there were three souls on board and when we
arrived on scene we did find three bodies. They were all DOA," said Chris Stroub, a spokesman for the Kern County Fire Department.
