An off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy has been arrested in an Internet child predator sting in Hawthorne.
Police say Carson station Deputy Joseph Carlos thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl he contacted through an online chat room, but the "girl" was an undercover policewoman out to snare child predators.
Information about the March 31 arrest was withheld until Thursday when Sheriff Lee Baca moved to fire the 31-year-old deputy.
The sting, part of a two-week operation by the South Bay Internet Predator Task Force, was videotaped for a Court TV special that will be broadcast soon.
Baca saw the video on Wednesday and launched an investigation.
