Schwarzenegger Learned Art Of Negotiation In Backyard Hot Tub

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger learned the art of political negotiation in a setting that's oh so California - soaking in his backyard hot tub.

Speaking to a gathering of Silicon Valley business leaders, the Republican governor explained how his wife - former television news
anchor Maria Shriver - came to support his 2003 gubernatorial bid.

The governor says he was sitting in his hot tub with his wife when he floated the idea of becoming governor to her.

She was initially opposed to it, he says, but he worked on her until she
relented.

While he described the scene, the audience broke into peals of laughter.

His wife's family is full of prominent Democrats, starting with her uncle, who was President John F. Kennedy.

So the governor quipped to the audience that it was in a hot tub that he learned to negotiate and to bring Democrats and Republicans together.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver have been married for more than 21 years.
