Ex-Teacher Gets Prison For Affair With Student

A former Arcadia High School English teacher who had an affair with a student was sentenced to 12 years and eight months in state prison.

Phillip Morgan Sutliff, 35, of Azusa, was sentenced Friday in Superior Court.

He pleaded guilty in August to 17 counts of sexual misconduct.

Sutliff had a two-year relationship with a student, beginning when she was 16 and ending when she graduated last year, authorities said.

"He discredited his family, his profession and all those who believed in him," the teenager's father told the judge.

Sutliff, who is married and has a young son, declined to speak at the hearing.
