Two young sisters were shot by a gunman who fired into their Spring Valley apartment from an outside walkway and then fled.
San Diego County Sheriff's Lieutenant Hope Andrews says the younger girl - who is 10 - was hit in the abdomen and will undergo surgery at Children's Hospital. Her 11-year-old sister was shot in the arm or leg.
Andrews says both girls appeared to have fallen asleep on the living room couch.
At least three other people who were in the apartment, including a little boy, were unhurt.
Andrews says the shooting started around 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Gang investigators have been called to the scene but haven't identified
