Banned Bicyclist Accuses BALCO Probers Of Laying 'Perjury Trap'

A disgraced champion bicyclist charged with lying to a federal grand jury investigating steroids has submitted an aggressive defense.

A federal grand jury last year charged former Olympic bicyclist Tammy Thomas with perjury for testifying that she never took illegal steroids even though she was barred for life in 2002 after testing positive for norbolethone.

But in a court filing today, Thomas' attorney argued that the athlete unwittingly took the steroid, but was not permitted to explain that to the grand jury when she testified.
