San Jose police have made an arrest in the kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.
Police are releasing few details, except to say the suspect was taken into custody Wednesday night.
The arrest comes after the girl was crossing a street Monday with her younger sister and was hit by a car. Police say the driver deliberately accelerated and hit her.
The girl's sister helped her to the sidewalk, but investigators say the driver then got out and forced her into his vehicle.
Police said the suspect drove away and tried to sexually assault the girl. She struggled, was able to get out of the car about four miles away from where the ordeal began. Police were called after she ran to a home for help.
The girl suffered what was described as severe injuries.
