San Jose police are releasing more details about a man who kidnapped and tried to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl.
Police say the girl was crossing a street Monday with her younger sister when the man deliberately accelerated his car and hit her.
The girl's sister helped her to the sidewalk, but investigators say the driver of the car then got out and forced her into his vehicle.
Police say the suspect drove away and tried to sexually assault the girl.
She struggled, was able to get out of the car about four miles away from where her ordeal began.
Police were called after she ran to a home for help.
The girl -- who has not been named -- remains hospitalized with severe injuries.
