Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is urging Governor Schwarzenegger to sign a bill that would make illegal immigrant students who graduate from California high schools eligible for college aid.
Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar measure in 2006.
Obama says that a second veto would - as he puts it - drive thousands of children who are on the right path into the shadows.
The bill is known as the California Dream Act. It would make financially needy illegal immigrant students eligible for Cal Grants or community college fee waivers if they graduate from a California high school after attending it for at least years and then are accept at a California college or university.
The measure would also make U-S citizens who graduate from California high schools but then move out of state eligible for the same aid programs.
