A man was arrested for investigation of animal cruelty after he tried to drown his dog in a bathtub for defecating on his carpet, police said Tuesday.
Casey Purser, 19, was released on $45,000 bail.
Purser became angry Monday after one of his two dogs, a Shih Tzu
named Toby, defecated on the carpet of his Van Nuys home in the San
Fernando Valley, police said in a statement.
He then threw the dog in a bathtub and attempted to drown it, police said.
A neighbor who saw the incident tried to rescue the animal, performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and rushing it to a local veterinary hospital, police said.
The dog was resuscitated with oxygen and its condition stabilized.
Police arrested Purser Monday when he arrived at the veterinary hospital to pay the bill.
Purser could not be located for comment.
His phone number was unlisted and authorities were unsure whether he had retained an attorney.
The dog was placed in the care of a police animal cruelty unit.
