Oroville Teen Faces Attempted Murder Charge In School Shooting

A 17-year-old boy who is accused of holding a high school drama class hostage at gunpoint after a breakup with his girlfriend has been charged with attempted murder, false imprisonment and several weapons violations.

Gregory Dean Wright was arraigned today as an adult in Butte County Superior Court. A judge ordered him held on more than one million dollars bail.

Butte County District Attorney Michael Ramsey says the attempted
murder charge is based on Wright's intention to track down and kill a romantic rival.

According to sheriff's investigators, Wright took about 30 students and a substitute teacher hostage in a band room at Las Plumas High School last Friday.

Investigators say at least two shots were fired into the ceiling before Wright surrendered.
