Smokers now face a $100 fine if they light up in most restaurant patio areas in Beverly Hills.
The smoking ban starts today as part of the city's attempt to provide a healthier environment and cleaner air for diners and pedestrians.
The ban applies to all outdoor dining areas, including restaurants located in hotels and within five feet of an open-air dining area.
Pool areas can have designated smoking zones.
