A federal judge in Bakersfield has sentenced a former elementary school vice principal to death for the murders of his wife, three small children and mother-in-law.
Vincent Brothers was convicted in May of five counts of first-degree murder for the July 2003 slayings.
Prosecutors said Brothers flew to the Midwest to establish an alibi, then drove more than two-thousand miles back to Bakersfield in a rental car to kill the five people.
They were shot and stabbed to death in their home after returning from church.
Defense attorneys on Thursday also lost a motion to give Brothers a new trial.
