SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - The Sparks Planning Commission has approved the special-use permit Wal-Mart needs to build a new 180,000-square foot supercenter on the edge of the Legends mall at the Sparks Marina.
Commissioners voted 6-1 Thursday to approve the permit for the Sparks Legends Development Inc. to begin construction on 18 acres near Marina Gateway Drive northeast of the marina and west of Target.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Amelia McLear says it will mean about 300 new jobs. It's expected to open in summer 2015.
The Daily Sparks Tribune reports (http://tinyurl.com/pulo3tx ) the permit requires sound walls and widening of Marina Gateway Drive from two lanes to four from East Lincoln Way north to Prater Way.
City planner Tim Thompson says it's part of a plan for a new 1.3 million square-foot retail and entertainment center.
