RENO, Nev. – You might not be whistling while you work in Reno. A new study by CareerBliss, an online career site, lists Reno as #2 on the “Unhappiest Places to Work” list.

The study is based on 36,000 independent employee reviews nationwide between November 2011 and November 2012. Employees were asked to evaluate ten factors that impact workplace happiness, including boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks, and control over the work done does on a daily basis. Each city was ranked on a five point scale.

The happiest cities to work in are Pittsburgh, Memphis, Honolulu, Knoxville, and Dayton, Ohio.

The unhappiest cities to work in are Little Rock, Fresno, Wichita, Reno and Boulder, Colorado.

“Happiness is based on a multitude of factors,” says Matt Miller, chief technology officer and co-founder of CareerBliss. “It is clear that employees need not only a positive and rewarding work culture, but opportunities to grow within their company and their city.”
