RENO, NV - Remember, April 15, 2014 is the deadline for filing your tax return. Before filing your tax return, you should check to make sure it doesn't contain any errors. The IRS provides the following tips to help you avoid some common errors.

The IRS suggests filing your return electronically through e-file or IRS Free File. This tax software finds common errors and alerts taxpayers when there is missing information. The IRS says this vastly reduces tax return errors.

Another tip is to fill in all requested information clearly and to review all figures. The IRS says when entering information, such as Social Security numbers, take the time to clearly print. They add that taxpayers should check only one filing status and the appropriate exemption boxes.

Taxpayers should also make sure there are no math errors. The IRS says these are common on paper returns.

Taxpayers filing papers also need to attach W-2s and other forms that reflect tax witholding, to the front of their returns, according to the IRS. They say if requesting a payment agreement with the IRS, also attach Form 9465 to the front of the return.

And as always, taxpayers should keep a copy of their signed return.

For taxpayers who are not quite ready to file their return, a six month extension can be requested.

The IRS says the fastest and easiest way to get the extension is through the Free File link on IRS.gov. Taxpayers can electronically request an automatic tax-filing extension on Form 4868.

Filing this form gives taxpayers until October 15 to file a return.
