PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) - Allegiant Air has added new nonstop service from New York and Iowa to southwest Florida.
Twice-weekly flights will run between Punta Gorda Airport and Long Island MacArthur Airport. Introductory fares start at $58 one way.
Meanwhile, twice weekly flights also will run between Punta Gorda and Eastern Iowa Airport. Introductory fares start at $95 one way.
Punta Gorda officials tell the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (http://bit.ly/J5lUO9 ) that the airport is spending $7 million to more than double the size of its terminal, to roughly 40,000 square feet. Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air is the airport's sole carrier.
Allegiant also will begin flying between Punta Gorda and Columbus, Ohio, and Portsmouth, N.H., in mid-February.
