GOP Targets Child Tax Break for Illegal Immigrants
Republicans are looking to stop illegal immigrants from claiming federal child tax credits, including refund checks averaging $1,800. It's an effort that has roused anger among Hispanics and some Democratic lawmakers.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republicans are looking to stop illegal immigrants from claiming federal child tax credits, including refund checks averaging $1,800. It's an effort that has roused anger among Hispanics and some Democratic lawmakers.
The proposal would require people who claim the credit to have Social Security numbers as proof that they're legal workers. It's being offered as a way to help pay for extending the Social Security tax cut for most American wage-earners.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada says the proposal unfairly goes after the children of poor Hispanic workers. Such kids often are U.S. citizens because they were born in this country. On the other side, Republicans and some Democrats say it's silly to even debate whether the government should be cutting checks to illegal immigrants.

What part of "ILLEGAL" is not understood?
You do not have to have a social security number to file taxes, you can go to any tax preparer, TELL them you are undocumented, you will be issued a tax id number and you can file your taxes. The government agencies dont cross reference, if the INS just audited welfare recipiants, they could round up a bunch of illegals. I know some illegals come here to work, but they sure like to have lots of kids and take advantage of the rest of us who pay our fair share. I will add there is plenty of American citizen trash doing the same thing.
@concerned: No, there are some middle eastern countries that recongnize all babies born there as citizens, and they can never leave. Don't go there if you are pregnant. Used to be that in the US if you were born to foreign parents you were given a one-time choice on your 21st birthday of which citizenship you wanted. Then if you picked US and were male, you were immediately drafted. I knew several such individuals in my youth.
