RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (27-21) led UC Davis (18-26) 8-2 heading to the ninth inning but had to score in the bottom of the inning to defeat the Aggies 9-8 in a nonconference game on Tuesday afternoon at Peccole Park. With the win the Wolf Pack improves to 27-21 while the Aggies fall to 18-26.

The Pack held a six run advantage heading to the top of the ninth inning and closer Matt Gardner retired the first two hitters of the inning but 10 more Aggie batters came to the plate and six scored to tie the game at 8-8. Freshman Colby Blueberg did record the final out of the inning but faced four batters before UCD was retired.

In the bottom of the ninth inning Jamison Rowe doubled with one out and moved to third on the play after the Aggie right fielder bobbled the ball. An intentional walk to Kewby Meyer and then Cameron Brooks reached on a fielders choice to load the bases. Reserve infielder Ray McIntire dropped down a bunt single to score Rowe with the winning run as Nevada escaped with the 9-8 victory in its final midweek game of the season.

Blueberg (1-2) won his first game at Nevada recording the one out in the top of the ninth. Harry Stanwyck (2-4) was tagged with the loss giving up just the one run in two innings on the mound.

Meyer (3-for-3,2R,3RBI) led Nevada with three hits and three RBI. Jay Anderson (2-for-4,2R), Rowe (2-for-5,R), Brett Jones (2-for-4,RBI) and Brooks Klein (2-for-4,2R,2RBI) had two hits apiece. Klein and Carlos Escobar each drove in two.

Paul Politi (3-for-4,2R) led the Aggies with three hits and Kevin Barker (2-for-5,2R,3RBI) had two hits and three RBI.

Nevada plays its final home games of the season this weekend when San Jose State comes to town for a three-game Western Athletic Conference series starting Friday night at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday’s games are scheduled for 1 p.m.
