RENO, Nev. — Football’s Jeremiah Green and softball’s Sara Parsons have been named the winners of the Wolf Pack’s Strength and Conditioning Alpha Male and Alpha Female Awards, Nevada assistant athletics director for strength and conditioning Matt Eck announced Tuesday.

The Alpha Awards are given annually to the top male and female athlete-of-the-year as voted on by Nevada’s strength and conditioning staff. The award winners represent everything that embodies Wolf Pack Athletics: character, integrity, effort habits, leadership, and a relentless pursuit of greatness.

Green hails from Tulare, Calif., and recently completed his junior year as a linebacker on the Wolf Pack football team, while Parsons is a sophomore outfielder from Fallon, Nev.

“Jeremiah Green represents all of the qualities that we look for in our Alpha Male Award. He is as competitive as anyone I have worked with and has an undeterred work ethic about him that is infectious to his teammates. He has natural leadership abilities that truly shine through when faced with adverse conditions, in which my staff constantly places our student-athletes. He is one of those special players who asks the most out of himself first and rallies those around him to do the same on a very consistent basis. Jeremiah is a great representative to what this award represents amongst our student-athletes as well as our strength and conditioning staff,” Eck said.

“Sara Parsons exemplifies every trait that represents being our Alpha Female Award winner. Last season as a freshman, Sara started seven games and had one hit. Over the last year, she engulfed herself in strength and conditioning, demonstrated an amazing work ethic and attitude and has transformed herself into one of the best hitters in the Western Athletic Conference as a sophomore. Sara leads the WAC in doubles and has started every game this year. She has an unquestioned drive and competitiveness to her game that has vaulted her into a true leadership role on softball team. Sara is a true testimony to the qualities represented in this award.”

Eck’s staff also selects a Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year in each sport. The winners fully utilize every aspect of the program to maximize their athletic performance, and each winner exemplifies a relentless work ethic, tenacity and intensity and demands the same of others around them.
