LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal judge is denying a request for time for prosecutors to investigate whether he should remove himself from a former Las Vegas Strip nightclub operator's criminal tax case.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson on Tuesday rejected postponing a July 9 hearing until Aug. 20.
Dawson sentenced Steve Davidovici last week to eight months' home confinement, three years' probation and about $141,000 in restitution. The sentence is now on hold.
Prosecutors sought 18 months for Davidovici for concealing millions in tips from the Internal Revenue Service.
Dawson said he feared the 48-year-old Davidovici couldn't get proper treatment in prison for a degenerative eye condition.
Dawson later disclosed that his 38-year-old son might have worked as a bartender at a club associated with Davidovici.
