Nevada Will Reapply for Federal Education Law Waiver

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - State education officials say Nevada will resubmit its application for a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind education law.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced Tuesday that he has
approved waivers for eight more states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and
Rhode Island.
Nevada applied for a waiver in February. But officials say they are re-working the state's application after receiving feedback from the U.S Department of Education. Nevada was not expecting to receive a waiver Tuesday.
The Obama administration is granting waivers in exchange for promises from states to improve how they prepare and evaluate students. In all, 19 states have been given waivers so far.
Officials say 26 states and Washington, D.C., applied for flexibility. The remaining applicants can still receive waivers.
