LAS VEGAS (AP) - After receiving scant attention in the Republican presidential race, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson is hoping to run on the Libertarian ticket.

Johnson is up against longtime Libertarian activist R. Lee Wrights as party delegates vote for their presidential nominee at the Libertarian national convention in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Libertarians hope to appeal to Republicans and Democrats fed up with their party leaders and forge a significant third-party campaign for president this November. There are roughly 250,000 registered Libertarian voters nationwide.

Johnson was a longshot candidate for the Republican presidential nomination when he announced in December that he would instead pursue the Libertarian ticket.

He served as New Mexico's governor from 1995 to 2003.

He supports legalized marijuana, low taxes and immigration reform
