HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - An 18-month-old girl is recovering after a Henderson police officer performed CPR on her after she was pulled from her family's backyard pool.
Police Officer Eric Tschirgi responded just after noon Sunday to the home on Buffalo River Avenue, near Magic Way and Boulder Highway.
He found the child's grandmother attempting CPR, and he took over, telling the woman to give emergency breaths while he did chest compressions.
The girl started to respond shortly after Tschirgi arrived, and was taken to the hospital. She remained in the hospital Monday, but is expected to recover.
Henderson Police Chief James White says there's no doubt the officer's actions saved the girl's life.
The pool wasn't fenced in. Officials advise families to install gates to keep children out.
