Posted: 10:11 AM Apr 10, 2012
Reporter: Associated Press

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two Las Vegas high school teachers are participating in a summer scientific research program through the
multinational Siemens Corporation.

Stephanie Spirisa of Northwest Career and Tech Academy and Sarah
MacNab of East Career and Tech Academy are among 40 teachers
nationwide selected for a two-week Siemens Teachers as Researchers fellowship.

The program works with teachers to spur interest in research and
inspire students to pursue science and technology careers. Program
officials say the two teachers will complete short-term projects
alongside some of the nation's top scientists.

The program operates from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash., and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Siemens is a large electronics and electrical engineering conglomerate. The company's foundation organizes the fellowship
program.
