JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Authorities investigating two shooting deaths on Mississippi highways say they're concerned that someone may be posing as a law enforcement officer and shooting people who pull over.

Forty-eight-year old Anne Carswell of Hernando was found near her car on Mississippi Highway 713 in Tunica County on May 8 about 2:15 a.m. Seventy-four-year old Thomas Schlender, of Raymond, Neb., was found in his car on Interstate 55 in nearby Panola County on May 11 about 1:30 a.m.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Director Larry Waggoner said Monday in a statement that authorities are concerned that someone is posing as an officer and shooting people.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain said people should call 911 or asterix-47 if they're concerned that someone pulling them over is not an officer.
