TRABUCO CANYON, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have successfully rescued three horses after they toppled into a ravine in a Southern California canyon.
U.S Forest Service spokesman Brian Harris says a fourth horse died in the fall Friday morning and was left in the ravine near Trabuco Canyon's Horsethief Trail.
Harris says two of the horses had to be tranquilized before being airlifted by helicopter, while the third horse was able to be walked out after firefighters cut a path through dense brush in the steep ravine.
Harris says none of the three riders that fell with the horses were badly injured, but were airlifted out by helicopter as a precaution.
The horses were part of an annual ride that travels 62 miles, from San Juan Capistrano to the Corona and Norco area, over 4 days.
