Man Gets Life for 1977 Bludgeoning Death

SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - A Monterey County man convicted of
bludgeoning an elderly woman to death in her bed has been sentenced to life in prison for the decades-old murder.
Prosecutors say 57-year-old Louis Salazar attacked 86-year-old
Teressie White in her home in the town of Aromas on April 21, 1977.
Authorities long suspected Salazar was the killer, but didn't
have enough evidence to prosecute him. He was eventually linked to
the crime through DNA testing after sheriff's detectives reopened
the case in 2006.
Salazar was a transient who had a lengthy criminal record.
Prosecutors say that on the night of the killing, he was dropped
off by friends four houses away from White's home.
A Monterey County judge sentenced Salazar on Tuesday after
denying his motion for a new trial.
