RENO, Nev. -- The southbound lanes are open again south of Gardnerville after flooding and rock slides forced the closure earlier Friday afternoon.
Nevada Highway Patrol officials at the scene of the closure say the southbound lanes are open but remain closely monitored. The northbound lanes will be closed until at least 7:15pm and probably longer.
Earlier in the afternoon, NHP officials reported two cars got stuck in flood waters and one car suffered damage when it hit a boulder. Traffic backed up two or three miles in each direction.
There have been two significant wildfires in the area (the Ray May Fires) in the past two fire seasons. Terrain is often unstable and susceptible to land- and mudslides after wildfires.
