Law Enforcement Agencies Teach Kids How To Fight Crime

Law Enforcment Teaches Kids How to Fight Crime

CARSON CITY, Nev. Carson City hosted its tenth annual National Night Out on Tuesday. The event is designed to teach families all over the country about ways to protect themselves against crime.

"It's a good cause," Patty DeRosa from the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation said. "We like that the public is out, and we have someplace where the kids can come and we know that there's people here who will keep them safe."

Hundreds of people walked around the age appropriate booths. Younger kids made copies of their fingerprints while learning about bad guys.

Teenagers were shown the frightening realty of what can happen if they text while driving. A totaled car was on display for them to see.
The ultimate goal of this event is to give people the tools they need to keep their families safe.

"This is one stop shopping for so many things," Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong said. "Families can learn on how to better protect themselves from a wide variety of circumstances."

Some tips included how to protect yourself from fraud.

Law enforcement officials say the best way to keep kids safe is to spend time with them.

"Research shows if a family will eat dinner together several times a week it will reduce the risk of children getting into trouble," Deputy Lisa Davis of the Carson City Sheriff's Office said.

In all, about 15,000 communities across the country took part in National Night Out.
