Hiker Who Disappeared in Sierra Found by Rescuers

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man who disappeared during a day hike in the Sierra National Forest is hospitalized after being found by rescuers.

The Lompoc Record reports that search teams from the Fresno County Sheriff's Department found Lawrence Leon Bishop around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fresno County sheriff's Lt. Gregg Andreotti told the newspaper that when rescuers found Bishop he was suffering from minor trauma and was dehydrated.

The 64-year-old Bishop is hospitalized in fair condition after being taken by helicopter to a Fresno hospital.

Bishop's rescue comes after he left for a day hike Thursday in the Dinkey Lakes Trail or Dog Tooth Peak area, a rugged area in the Sierra National Forest, about 45 miles northeast of Fresno.

Bishop is from the Santa Barbara County community of Buellton, where he works as the city's parks and recreation commissioner.
