YERINGTON, Nev. -- Lyon County employees will not be getting pay raises during the coming fiscal year. Friday the Lyon County Board of Commissioners approved a wage-freeze for all non-union workers.
The move comes on the heels of an agreement between the Board of Commissioners and the Lyon County Employees Association (LCEA). On July 9th, the board struck a deal with the LCEA to freeze merit increases for the 2013 fiscal year.
In the past, specifically during good financial times, non-union county employees were given raises comparable to those awarded members of the LCEA. County Manager Jeff Page explains that since union and non-union employees were treated the same during good times, they should be treated the same during financially difficult times as well.
The vote does not affect the budgets of elected officials. It does affect salaries of a number of county department-heads and their respective staff members.
