It would be nice if the existing pools were updated and operated, (Moana, Bower's mansion).

Have you been in the river? You can walk across it in most places during the summer. Let people have a little fun and excitement. If it turns tragic for them then it is their responsibility. Get a life. We don't need more nursemaids.

Calm down, take your meds, go back to your mom's basement and take a nap.

You would be utterly amazed if you knew how the first nameholder of Truckee got that name. I'll bet even the Cuiuidokado don't know.

So what exactly is wrong with swimming in the river?

Ok. So Bill if your big problem is that you unnecessarily opened a news story you must be one helluva busy individual its really not that big of a deal and it says "man dies in Truckee while tubing" how many times have you seen someone tubing down main street in Truckee during the summer? Obamacare ??? Really what the flog does someone drowning have to do with politics Omg people make me wonder how they get dressed in the morning without assistance!!!

Must have been drunk. I floated the river on Sunday and at no point was the river even remotely dangerous.

Read it again...it does not say "the Truckee"...the headline says "Man Dies in Truckee....." If it said what you quoted, it WOULD make perfect sense...

WOW! Stop! How the h*ll do you make the tragic death of a young man tubing on the river political? Neither Obama or Romney had anything to do with this. He died because he was Not wearing a lifejacket. Again I ask you pundits Stop

. . . keep them from doing stupid things? You mean like voting for Dubbya TWICE? Or believing that "Obamacare" is really health CARE reform [it's not and has NOTHING to do with CARE; it's all about insurance companies getting more money]? Or believing that moneybags like Romney really have a clue about what it's like to live day to day? Clearly, people have been doing stupid stuff for decades, and the gov't hasn't spent a dime, because people are just . . . stupid.

As they say, there are pools. But the river is free. If you want to cool off in a natural (un-chlorinated) area, the Truckee river is both beautiful and in-expensive. Hopefully education and personal responsibility will lead people to wearing life jackets on the Truckee. It's no creek between little ponds. It's a dangerous river. And I don't feel the local owners of the water park should give up profits because people aren't taking precautions when getting into a river.

it says in the truckee. when they talk about truckee, the town, they don't call it "the truckee", do they? how about using your time in a better way than leaving dumb comments about semantics....
Posted by: stephen Location: reno on Jul 1, 2012 at 04:08 PM

or make the water park a lot cheaper

I don't believe we need any more governmental control over anything in this country of ours than what we already have. It is a tragedy when someone loses their life, however, when one chooses to get into a river or any other type of water for that matter, realizes there is a chance that something tragic can happen, same as getting behind the wheel of a car or climbing on a ladder, or riding your bike on a street. So sorry for the family of the victim but I am sure the guy was doing something he loved to do.

The community pools around town do get used. Not sure why you would think otherwise. Just because people swim in the Truckee doesn't mean pools aren't used. Correlation does not imply causation.
