LOS ANGELES (AP) - Rodney King has been laid to rest in a casket embroidered with his famous words, "Can we all get along?"
He made the comments during the race riots that erupted after a jury acquitted four Los Angeles officers charged in his 1991 beating that was caught on camera.
During his funeral in Los Angeles on Saturday, the Rev. Al Sharpton said King never showed bitterness to the officers who beat him. He says King became a "symbol of forgiveness."
The funeral came nearly two weeks after King was found dead at the bottom of the swimming pool at his Rialto, California home on June 17. He was 47 years old.
His daughter, 28-year-old Laura Dene King says she was proud to have had her father in her life for as long as she did.
King's death is being treated as an accidental drowning but authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine the official cause of death.
