CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Members of the Nevada Army National Guard's 593rd Transportation Company are preparing for nine-month deployment in Afghanistan.

A mobilization ceremony was held Saturday in Reno at Wooster High School.

The unit includes about 120 soldiers from around the state, and the 593rd is the same unit that deployed to Iraq in 2006. In 2004, about half the unit's soldiers were deployed to Iraq with another National Guard transportation company based in Las Vegas.

The transportation company is headquartered in Reno and has detachments in Winnemucca, Elko and Las Vegas.

The unit will be driving mine resistant ambush protected vehicles and other vehicles to transport personnel and cargo in Afghanistan. The Nevada soldiers will also provide security on convoy missions.
