Chihuahua Tossed in Truckee River Needs New Home

RENO, NV - Thanks to the kind heart of a Good Samaritan in downtown Reno, a bright future is now on the horizon for Rio.

A senior Chihuahua, Rio was found by a gentleman who witnessed someone throwing the little dog into the Truckee River. Although he wanted to confront the people who put Rio in harm’s way, his instinct was to instead rescue the dog.

After taking a few days to recover at Nevada Humane Society, Rio is now doing well and looking for a peaceful, loving home.

“Rio is a very sweet senior who is shy when she first meets you. As she gets to know you, she becomes very social and outgoing. Our staff has provided her with the care she needed, and she is now ready for a new home,” said Art Westbrook, Dog Care Manager for Nevada Humane Society. “Rio would prefer to be an only pet and in an adult-only family.”

To meet Rio, come to the Nevada Humane Society shelter at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno or call 775-856-2000.

Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions seven days a week, from 11:00 am until 6:30 pm and an hour earlier on Saturdays, at 10:00 am. The shelter is located at 2825 Longley Lane, Reno.
