Service Set for Canadian Last Seen in NV Desert

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Canadian man will be remembered at a public
memorial service Saturday, more than a year after he was last seen
leaving his stranded van in the Nevada wilderness.

The service for Albert Chretien will be held at the Bethel
Church in his hometown of Penticton, British Columbia.

His 56-year-old wife, Rita Chretien, was found alive last May 6
in Elko County near the Idaho line. She stayed in the van for seven
weeks, surviving on trail mix, candy and snow.

But there has been no sign of her 59-year-old husband since he
set out March 22, 2011, from the couple's van in search of help.

Family spokeswoman Hannah Hyland says the service was scheduled after family and friends reluctantly accepted several months ago that he could not have survived.
