Sparks Police Investigating Stabbing

SPARKS, NV - Sparks police are still sorting out the details of a stabbing that happened after Wednesday night's fireworks show.

About 11:35PM, an officer working the event in downtown Sparks found a 23-year-old man with stab wounds on 12th Street. He was taken to Renown for surgery, and is now recovering.

Police followed a trail of blood around the corner ending in the 400 block of 11th street. They found a man who told them he had stabbed the victim. The investigation led police to believe the victim had been drunk and tried to start a fight with a 13-year-old boy, while using gang language. The boy's father went to help the boy, and got into a fight with the man, somehow stabbing him in the process. Witnesses indicate the knife belonged to the victim. The boy was also hurt, not seriously, according to police.

Police say there is no evidence indicating the boy or his father are associated with any gang.

Sparks detectives still want to speak with anyone who may have seen the incident. You can call them at 353-2225. Or call Secret Witness and be anonymous at 322-4900.
