SPARKS, Nev. -- A man is in custody and his mother was sent to the hospital in what started as a noise disturbance call in Sparks.
Sparks Police were called to the 2800 block of Laguna Saturday evening and were confronted by Dean Kelly Archie. Officers say Archie threatened to shoot them before going back inside the home where his elderly mother was located.
When negotiations failed and officers had information the man was hurting his mother, they entered the home and found the Archie strangling his mother on a sofa.
The mother was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Archie was arrested and charged with kidnapping, coercion, false imprisonment, and domestic battery by strangulation. He is being held at Washoe County Jail with no bail.
