Philadelphia Man Finds Himself on Missing Child Website
Posted: 12:34 PM Apr 27, 2012 Reporter: CNN
A curious 35-year-old from Philadelphia made a shocking discovery online: He was a missing child.
Steve Carter saw a story on CNN about missing kids, and decided to take a look at missingkids.com.
The Philadelphia-resident knew he was adopted at age 4 from a Honolulu orphanage, then as an adult grew curious about his biological family.
Carter found an age-progression image made from a photograph of him as an infant.
After contacting Honolulu police, he learned bits and pieces of what happened before he arrived at the orphanage. Apparently his biological father reported him missing after his mother took him for a walk and didn't return.
"It was a bit shocking," says Carter. "I have to tell you, to see yourself and to realize that you know what? People had been looking for you for that long. I was shell shocked, at the same time it was really the first time I had ever seen a baby picture of myself, so to see that along with a picture of what i would look like at 28 was pretty amazing."
Carter says he has only contacted his newfound relatives by phone, and will eventually meet them face-to-face. He wants to find out what happened between the day he went missing and his arrival at the Hawaiian orphanage.
