Nevada Woodchucks Looking for New Home

Woodchucks

Every year members of the Nevada Woodchucks give out thousands of handmade toys to 15 local charities. It makes Christmas a little brighter for a lot of needy children.

"It's a great feeling to do that and the kids love it," Woodchuck President Tom Doud said.

They've been working out of a 3,000-square-foot-space behind Bristlecone Family Resources on South McCarran since 1995. But the building is in a flood plain and has flooded twice in the last ten years. A recent sewage backup has left the building uninhabitable for at least another week.

The group plans to continue working there by the end of the month but say it's not a long-term solution.

"Regardless of what goes on with this, we're going to lose the building and we need a new one," Doud said. "We're hoping someone in the community has a space they might rent to us."

They're looking for a place they can call home for the long run.

"We need a place we can stay in for awhile because we'll have to upgrade," Doud said. "We'll have to run wiring so we can run 220 and that's a major expense to do so when we move we don't want to move again."
